The AP English Language and Composition course is designed to enable students to become
skilled readers and writers in diverse genres and modes of composition. As stated in the
Advanced Placement Course Description, the purpose of the Language and Composition course
is “to enable students to read complex texts with understanding and to write papers of sufficient
richness and complexity to communicate effectively with mature readers” (The College Board,
May 2007, May 2008, p.6).

continue working in groups, discussing the books you have selected.
I like deconstruction because it talks about the dichotomy and hierarchy in a piece of literature. Dichotomy is like black and white -- definitive ends. Something is either up or down, that is dichotomous. Using deconstruction, you accept everything in between the two dichotomous ends. You imagine all the meanings, all the grays in between the black and white. Things don't have to be definite. Think of The Things They Carried --- he painted his expansive picture by even contradicting himself. He kept going as he figured out how to tell the war story. I'm going to see how The Awakening tells the feminist story, trying to look through dichotomy and hierarchy. ~megan
Marxist Criticism interests me the most. The idea that there shouldn't be as much of a social distinction between social classes seems like a wonderful idea. There shouldn't be people who have more than they need and others with barely enough to survive. There should be a more structured social class with less of a gap within them. Everyone in the world should get as much as they deserve for as much work they do. Psychoanalytic criticism interests me also because the way people and think and the reasons people do the things they do and and think the way they think is very interesting to me.
My favorite literary criticism is Historicism. It is important to know the historical background in the novel to see influences in them. The setting and time period a novel takes place is important to understand social issues, politics, and lifestyles in a novel. It is also important to understand the author's influence to writing the novel. An example of this is Doctorow 's Ragtime. He wrote this during the time of the Civil Rights movement and wrote a book based dealing with racial issues in the early 1930s. Knowing the historicism for a novel is important to truly understand all aspects of a novel.
I think that writing the Feminist criticism will be interesting , because I would have chance to go more deep in women role in the society and find out what made them to choose the way of life and realize more the decisions they made.
