As the blossoming country that is America was in the process of expanding in 1854. Many Native American Indians were to be displaced. Chief Seattle and his tribe were one of many to be placed on reservations. When Governor Isaac I. Stevens informs the Chief that they must sell their land, Chief Seattle warns him that if the US government ends up disrespecting the land and the people, they will regret it. Chief Seattle speaks to Stevens with compassion and an unconditional love for his land and his tribe. Seattle conveys his emotions through his use of figurative language, metaphor and powerful imagery.
